WIOA Funding Information

Workforce Funding for IT and Cybersecurity Training

Eligible Maryland residents may qualify for workforce-development funding toward selected career-focused IT, cybersecurity, networking, cloud-computing, and certification-training programs at ASM Educational Center.

ASM Educational Center helps prospective students explore training options that may qualify for WIOA or other workforce-development funding. Eligibility, funding amounts, program approval, and final authorization are determined by the workforce organization serving the applicant’s county of residence.

WIOA-Funded IT and Cybersecurity Training in Maryland

WIOA stands for the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act. It is a federal workforce-development law that helps connect eligible job seekers and workers with employment services, career planning, education, occupational training, and certain support services.

In Maryland, WIOA services are administered through state and local workforce-development organizations, American Job Centers, and local workforce boards. The applicant’s county of residence generally determines which local workforce agency handles the case.

!

Funding Is Not Automatic

WIOA is not a universal scholarship, automatic tuition waiver, guaranteed source of free training, or grant paid directly to the applicant. Eligibility and funding approval are determined by the appropriate workforce agency.

Eligibility Notice: These examples do not establish eligibility. The applicant’s local workforce agency makes the official eligibility determination.

A Five-Step Funding Roadmap

The funding process may vary by county, case manager, workforce agency, selected occupation, selected training program, and available funding. The steps below explain the general process applicants should expect.

1

Complete ASM’s Funding Intake Form

The prospective student submits ASM’s secure Workforce Development Federal Funding Form with accurate contact information, county of residence, technical background, training interests, delivery preferences, and case-manager information when applicable.

2

Speak With the ASM Team

An ASM representative reviews the inquiry, discusses the applicant’s career objectives, and helps identify a potentially appropriate IT or cybersecurity training pathway.

3

Contact the Local Workforce Agency

The applicant works with the American Job Center, workforce organization, or case manager serving the applicant’s county of residence. Local steps may include orientation, verification, assessments, career planning, documentation, or other requirements.

4

Receive Program and Funding Authorization

The workforce agency determines whether the applicant qualifies, whether the selected occupation and program are approved, how much funding may be authorized, and which expenses may be covered.

5

Enroll After Written Approval

ASM proceeds with enrollment after the required authorization, purchase order, training voucher, Individual Training Account documentation, or other funding approval has been received.

Important: Applicants should not begin training, pay for the program, or make financial commitments while waiting for approval unless specifically instructed by the funding agency.

Maryland Workforce Funding Is Local and County-Specific

WIOA is federally authorized, but services are administered through Maryland’s local workforce system. The applicant’s county may affect the workforce organization handling the case, eligibility procedures, funding limits, required documents, priority populations, approved training programs, approved occupations, supportive services, processing timelines, and whether a waitlist is currently in effect.

Funding information for one county should not be assumed to apply statewide. Montgomery County, Prince George’s County, Frederick County, Baltimore County, Anne Arundel County, Howard County, and other Maryland jurisdictions may have different policies, procedures, limits, and available funds.

  • Eligibility procedures may vary by local workforce area.
  • Funding limits may vary by county and by program.
  • Approved occupations and training programs may vary.
  • Processing timelines and required documentation may vary.
  • Funding availability may change based on local budgets and priorities.

County Funding Amounts Must Be Confirmed Before Enrollment

The examples below are county-specific funding notices and should not be presented as statewide Maryland amounts. Final eligibility, program approval, funding availability, and written authorization are determined by the appropriate workforce agency or assigned case manager.

Montgomery County Up to $5,000

Montgomery County applicants may currently be eligible for workforce training funding of up to $5,000, subject to local workforce policies, applicant eligibility, program approval, selected occupation, available funds, and final written authorization.

Prince George’s County Up to $4,000

Prince George’s County applicants may currently be eligible for workforce training funding of up to $4,000, subject to local workforce policies, applicant eligibility, program approval, selected occupation, available funds, and final written authorization.

Confirm Current Availability: Funding limits, eligibility rules, enrollment priorities, waitlists, and approved program lists may change. Applicants should confirm current funding availability directly with their local workforce agency or assigned case manager before making training decisions.

Approved Costs Must Be Included in the Written Authorization

Depending on the approved program and written authorization, workforce funding may apply toward approved costs such as:

$

Training Tuition

Tuition may be covered when the selected training program is approved and authorized by the workforce agency.

F

Required Fees

Required course fees may be covered when included in the approved training plan.

B

Books and Materials

Books, learning materials, and required supplies may be covered when specifically authorized.

E

Certification Exams

Certification examination costs may be covered when part of the approved program cost and written authorization.

P

Program Expenses

Other approved program expenses may be included if authorized by the workforce agency.

!

Not Automatic

Workforce funds are generally paid to the approved training provider rather than deposited into the applicant’s personal bank account.

Coverage Rule: Coverage depends on the applicant’s approved training plan. An expense is not considered covered unless it is included in the workforce agency’s written authorization.
